Acceptance in Lieu Panel members – Arts Council England

The Arts Council is looking for 2 new Members of the Acceptance in Lieu Panel.  The Acceptance in Lieu Panel, which has a UK wide remit, advises the Secretary of State for DCMS, and the Ministers in the devolved governments, on items offered under the Acceptance in Lieu and Cultural Gifts Schemes. It also advises HM Revenue & Customs on cultural objects for which a claim for Conditional Exemption is made.

As a member of the AIL Panel you will play an important role in enhancing public collections around the country; you will be part of a process that brings fantastic objects into public ownership so that they can be enjoyed now and by future generations.

We are looking for people who are passionate about public collections and are knowledgeable about the museum and heritage sector throughout the UK.

We are particularly interested in hearing from people across the UK with experience in any of the following areas:

  • Manuscripts, rare books and archives
  • Old masters painting and sculpture
  • Collections development and interpretation
  • Audience development & community engagement

Location: London with the option to join virtually (The majority of Panel members join in-person but there is the option to join virtually.  Some travel may be required with expenses paid)

Contract Type: Voluntary position for a fixed term of four years (with the possibility of reappointment)

Time commitment: Up to 15 days a year is estimated

Closing Date: 31 August 2023 at 5:00pm

Salary: This is a voluntary role, with UK expenses reimbursed

Specific Hours: In total a time commitment of up to 15 days a year is estimated (this includes monthly meetings and some preparatory work).
