Training grant – AIM Setting up a new museum workshops

Setting up a New Museum was a wonderful chance to learn from two Museum Professionals about best practices and challenges faced in establishing a museum. The Foxfield Railway Museum started collecting in the late 1960s and moved into its present building in 1982. Since then, despite having gained provisional accreditation about twenty years ago, the Museum needed to start again, with a complete refresh both in terms of building, displays, organisation and curation.

Setting up a New Museum has provided the current manager with many learning points to guide this process to create a more sustainable, equitable museum as well as meet and learn from others who are starting on their road of setting up a museum. They also found it rewarding as it confirmed he was already on the right track. Visitors to the museum are really impressed by the transformation made so far.
