Training grant – Army Museums Ogilby Trust conference

The Gurkha Museum were awarded £300 towards the costs of a staff group attending the Army Museums Ogilby Trust conference.  The 2022 theme was ‘Storytelling: New approaches in Army Museums’ and two of the team, Darren Bowyer, Director and Charlie Martin, Head of Fundraising and Marketing, spoke on Gharma Sunnu: Developing the Gurkha Museum’s Digital Offer.

“It was a fantastic opportunity for four of our staff members to attend the Army Museums Ogilby Trust Conference in York in October. Previously only one or two staff have been able to attend but when we saw the conference’s programme, we wanted to ensure that the entire office team could attend to benefit from the learning. Two of our staff were invited to deliver a presentation at the conference, which had brilliant feedback.

It was also useful, whilst up in York, to visit the York Army Museum who have recently undergone a redevelopment project and capital fundraising appeal. As the Gurkha Museum embarks on a similar project, it is useful to learn from other museums and gain ideas from their interpretation. Thank you for supporting the Gurkha Museum with this grant.”
