Training grant – IFLA Conference

Thanks to a training grant received from AIM I was able to attend the International Federation of Library Associations/World Library and Information Congress in Dublin at the end of July 2022.

With over 2,000 delegates from 100 countries, it was a great opportunity to exchange knowledge not only on a local or regional basis but internationally. I was able to attend sessions on exhibiting rare books, exhibition loan processes, fundraising, and undertaking capital development works, as well as how to engage visitors virtually using visualisers and online exhibitions.

There was also an excellent practical session on using Canva to create marketing posters and short videos. ‘Climate sustainability’ was a theme that came up in several of the sessions and various speakers outlined initiatives they had undertaken to reduce environmental impact and to engage different audiences on this topic. An excellent exhibition area enabled me to find out about the latest technologies and services in the sector, while on the last day I enjoyed guided tours of local libraries.

In summary, in the words of the Conference themes, the Conference was a fantastic way to be inspired, engaged, enabled and connected!
