Good governance in a time of crisis for Scottish museums

What is good governance in a time of crisis? This session is specifically for museums in Scotland.

In this critical period, the director, staff and volunteers need trustees to provide clear, measured and supportive oversight of the difficult actions and decisions required. Some key questions include; what’s the minimum for Board meetings online? How do trustees support the Director / senior staff? How much involvement should trustees have just now in the operational work? What are the key areas for trustees to engage with e.g. finance, employment, furloughing or redundancies of staff? If the museum needs a different organisational structure for the future, when should trustees start to implement this?

Let’s talk through the issues online at the first Governance Forum at 11am on Wednesday 13 May. The forum will be led by Hilary Barnard and Ruth Lesirge from HBRL Consulting, expert advisors on charity and museum governance. There are only 6 places so sign up soon.

You will need:

  • To be chair, trustee or senior manager of an AIM member organisation
  • Have access to Zoom online
  • Be open to discussing your and other organisation’s situations with a group of peers
  • Have a hot cup of tea (or coffee) at the ready!
