VAT Refund Scheme advice webinar
Where: Zoom online forum
Time: 11:00 - 12:30
If you’re thinking of making an application to the VAT Refund Scheme (VAT33a), then our webinar on 7 December will help you through the process.
Join Scott Craig from AIM Associate Supplier Azets and representatives from AIM and DCMS to explore the VAT Refund Scheme and how this can benefit your organisation. Attendees will be taken through the application process and raise related questions.
Azets has over 25 years’ experience providing high quality compliance, governance, taxation and advisory services to a wide range of charities and NFPs. Scott Craig and his team have familiarity with VAT33a and working with museums to successfully apply for refunds in previous rounds.
The webinar is free and open to non-members as well as AIM members. It’s ideal for the person who will be the lead contact for the VAT Refund Scheme at your museum and / or the person making the application.

More on VAT33a
We’d recommend taking a look at the information about the VAT Refund Scheme ahead of the webinar to see if this is right for your museum.
If your museum/gallery offers free of charge admission and is open to the public for at least 30 hours per week it could apply for ‘special’ Section 33A VAT status. This status would allow you to claim back VAT that’s normally blocked from recovery. The current opportunity to apply and obtain ‘special’ VAT status closes on 3 January 2023
To be considered for inclusion in the scheme museums or galleries must:
- Be open to the general public for at least 30 hours per week, without exception
- Offer free entry, without prior appointment
- Hold collections in a purpose-built building
- Display details of free entry and opening hours on the museum or gallery website
You can find out more about the scheme on the gov.uk website>>
The closing date for this round of applications has been extended to 1 March 2023.
