Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome is recruiting for a number of part time roles:

  • Engagement Officer (P/T)
  • Welcome Supervisor (P/T)

Engagement Officer

0.4 FTE / 780hrs per annum (averaging 15hrs per week but probably more in Summer)

Salary: £10,200 (Pro Rata: £25,500)

This new role is a key part of the future planning of the museum. Working closely with the Marketing Officer, Welcome Supervisor and CEO, the post holder will engage directly with audiences to build footfall to Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome, owning relationships with visitor groups, schools and societies. Operationally, they will hold key relationships with the Finance Officer and Catering Supervisor. They will seek out new and refresh existing audiences, using their own expertise and networks, as well as developing those already in place, to reach educational, tourist and special interest groups. They will own the administrative journey, shaping it as necessary to achieve a streamlined, efficient and professional process.

The postholder will be a team-player with initiative and a passion for collaboration, as well as a motivated and enthusiastic person. The nature of this role requires on-site working weekly. The museum is multi-faceted, complicated and has a variety of workstreams in action at any given time, so to deliver the outputs, on-site immersion is vital. As the postholder becomes more established, remote working for some days will be possible, but there will always be a requirement for on-site attendance, weekly. 

Welcome Supervisor

Approx. 0.4 FTE / 832 hrs. per annum (averaging 16hrs per week but possibly more in Summer)

Salary: £11,255 (Pro Rata: £26,380)

This role is a central part of our Visitor Experience. The postholder oversees the on-site Visitor Welcome, working with a small team of dedicated volunteers to deliver a professional, warm and friendly visitor experience at the Admission point. The postholder will be on-site for at least one day most weekends, leading by example to deliver a friendly and helpful on-site Visitor Experience. As the first point of contact on-site for our audiences, we rely on this postholder and their team to set the tone and standard. Due to the location of the Admission point, the postholder also oversees the retail offer in our small outlet.

The postholder needs to be a team-player with initiative and a passion for collaboration, as well as a motivated and enthusiastic person. The nature of this role requires on-site working, weekly. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, working closely the Engagement Officer, the Welcome Supervisor is a vital part of a small team of paid staff and a large team of dedicated volunteers.

Catering Assistant

0.4 FTE / 480hrs (Fixed Term: April – October 2025, averaging 15hrs per week)

Salary: £5,860 (Pro Rata: £23,809)

The Catering Assistant role is a hands-on one, involved in the day-to-day operation of the food and beverage offer of the museum. During regular opening hours and events, the postholder supports the Catering Supervisor and in their occasional absence, supervises, the service and the preparation of food and beverage service to a range of customers, mostly at weekends. In addition, they assist in the allocation of all other duties and monitor catering standards.

Marketing Officer

3 days per week /1092 hours per annum (0.6 FTE).  Fixed Term,  March 2025 to February 2026 with scope to extend.

Salary: £16,500 per annum (£29,000 pro rata).

This post offers an exciting opportunity to make a major contribution to this nationally important heritage site in Essex. We are looking for an exceptional marketing person with an interest in working in the charitable sector and with an understanding of heritage. The role includes developing and delivering key messages to raise the profile of Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome (SMGWA), a unique site, to attract a wider audience. The role will use Social Media as key mechanism, but embrace other mediums, to achieve visitor number targets.
