Location: Museum of North Craven Life, Settle, North Yorkshire

Settle is a small market town where local communities experience rural isolation and where cultural participation is low. The Museum was founded in 1976 and opened at its new home in The Folly, a Grade I listed 17th century town house, in 2001. It continues to collect, care for, and interpret the natural and cultural heritage of the North Craven district. The Museum welcomes visitors from the local community and beyond, inspiring them to find out about the history of the town, surrounding areas, people and landscape. The impact of coronavirus on the local economy, especially tourism businesses, is expected to be significant.
This post is funded by Arts Council England through the Culture Recovery Fund and aims to ensure that the Museum enters the next phase of the pandemic and beyond in a strong position. Key to ensuring the strength and longevity of the organisation is our volunteer cohort. Like all museums, we are dependent on our volunteers and at The Folly their roles range from opening up and working on the admission desk, to cataloguing collections, running the Museum’s social media and managing the gardens. Many of our existing volunteers were in a higher-risk category, prompting the Museum to recruit new volunteers over the summer.
Role purpose
The aim of this post is to continue to recruit new volunteers, while finding ways to retain and re-engage current volunteers; to review our volunteering policies; to improve communication within the volunteer team and between volunteers and trustees of the museum. The post-holder may be required to have some additional responsibilities for the work of a Kickstart trainee, if appointed during the lifetime of the contract.
