Success Guide: Negotiating Business Rates

Business image

In partnership with Lambert Smith Hampton, AIM has updated its guide on ‘Successfully Negotiating Business Rates’. Written by Colin Hunter, the guide covers the basics required to understand the complex world of Business Rates including how museums are or should be valued for rating; the potential effect of having a trading subsidiary; changes to the rating appeal system in England and recent case law and case studies which potentially affect museums anywhere in the UK..

This update is critical as changes to the appeal system in England mean that those concerned that their Rateable Value is too high need to start the process of checking the Valuation Officer’s figures as soon as practical, and before the end of March 2020.

Free Consultation

As ever, it is advisable to take professional advice before embarking on any appeals not least as the Rateable Value can be increased if it has been under-assessed. If you are interested in finding out more, Colin Hunter of Lambert Smith Hampton has agreed to provide AIM members with a minimum of 15 minutes free consultation.
