Who we are

The Classic Boat Museum’s collection of nearly 100 boats, maritime artefacts and an extensive library and archives occupies two historic sites on both sides of the River Medina. It tells the story of competitive and leisure yachting as well as the industrial shipbuilding history of Cowes – a major producer of lifeboats and ships for the Royal Navy. The Board has ambitious plans to grow the museum on the Medina Yard site to display the museum’s holdings in one location beside the iconic grade 2* listed hammerhead crane. Our approach is to be welcoming, accessible, educational, and engaging. Looking forward we also aim to be a destination of choice for the many and frequent visitors to the Island.
