The Museum needs to use the experience of people with a real investment in local culture and events to join our Board. Court Barn is currently looking for a Chair to take on the leading of the board through a process of Co-Chairing with a current trustee. The Museum would also like to recruit a new Treasurer.

Chair

The Chair leads the board, ensuring that it governs the charity effectively, in service of the charity’s vision and mission. The Chair leads in an inclusive way, supporting the board to work together well, and providing support and challenge to the Curator. The Chair is also an ambassador for the charity.

  • An understanding of museums and their role and also of how small businesses operate. An inclusive leadership style: able to inspire and support everyone to participate on an equal footing to ensure effective management of employees, volunteers and trustees. Encourage trustee involvement/dialogue in relevant areas, lead on planning and ensure actions are followed up.
  • The ability to listen and engage effectively and be comfortable with challenge and debate and are able to encourage that in others whilst fostering a collaborative board environment.
  • Advocate – be able and willing to champion Court Barn’s work through personal networks, social media and other channels.

  • Whilst not necessarily requiring formal accountancy qualifications, the postholder will need to be confident in financial analysis, both on a day-today and strategic basis.
  • The treasurer prepares the annual accounts, using Quickbooks.
  • A strategic thinker with an ability to balance risk and opportunity.
