Director of Enterprises

Dudley Canal and Tunnel Trust is seeking to recruit a new Director of Enterprises to work with the Chief Executive, Treasurer and Commercial Manager to develop its strategic plan, overview, and reporting lines.

Enterprises is the wholly owned trading arm of the Dudley Canal and Tunnel Trust and comprises of the large onsite Gift Shop and Corporate and Hospitality Department which has the use of a Function Room, and the Trust’s bright and airy Gongoozler Café. The site is fully licenced for events, wedding ceremonies and receptions and has great potential for further development and drivers of income, recognition, and footfall.

The post holder will work closely with the Dudley Canal and Tunnel Trust team to provide expertise and insight, help monitor progress, develop opportunities, and produce a departmental performance report which they will deliver at the bi-monthly Trust Board Meetings.

All applicants are welcome, but we especially encourage applications from those with experience of commercial activities such as retail development, working in the conference, leisure and hospitality sector and managing events. A commitment to be actively involved and the ability to help us realise our vision and strategic aims with skills and energy is a must.

Treasurer

Dudley Canal and Tunnel Trust is seeking to recruit a treasurer to work with the Chair, Chief Executive, and Board of Trustees to develop its governance, strategic plans and the financial management and reporting for this vibrant Charity.

The Trust has been in operation over sixty years and runs guided boat trips through ancient scheduled monuments and abandoned industrial mines, cruises on the canal, education workshops, special events and a large onsite catering establishment. Through Enterprises, its wholly owned trading arm, it runs a large onsite gift shop and corporate and hospitality department.

This is an exciting time to join us as the Trust looks to review and reposition several of its offers and develop plans and goals that will ensure it remains sustainable, vibrant, and engaging for all.

Duties

  • The post holder will monitor the financial administration & health of the charity, and report to the board of trustees at regular intervals, in line with best practice and in compliance with the governing document and legal requirements.
  • The treasurer will be involved in budgeting and strategic financial planning, financial and management reporting, risk assessment, risk management and production of annual accounts, and is likely to be involved in areas such as investments, governance, reserves and pensions.
  • The postholder will also be expected to act as a signatory for the Trust’s finances.
  • Contact & meetings with the Trust’s Finance Manager and Chief Executive on a regular basis.
  • Experience of financial management is required, experience of charities and governance advantageous.

Trustees

Dudley Canal and Tunnel Trust is seeking to recruit new Trustees to work with the Chair, Trustees and   Chief Executive to develop the trusts governance, charitable aims, strategic planning and development.

Additional information 

Number of meetings per annum/time commitment:  6 x Trust Board Meetings (mix of in-person and virtual), 1 x Annual General Meeting and 1 x Board Away Day.
