Elizabeth Gaskell’s House is looking to recruit two trustees aged 18-30 to help it develop and progress as it enters its second decade. During 2024 Elizabeth Gaskell’s House is taking part in the ‘Engaging your First Young Trustees’ programme with Kids in Museums which will provide additional support to the organisation during the recruitment process. The House has a long-standing commitment to the representation of young people in our staff and volunteer teams. 10% of our volunteers are aged 18-25 and half of our staff team are under 30, and they want to see this is reflected at Board level.

Skills and qualities:

  • You will be aged 18-30.
  • Have good communication skills and be willing to participate in discussion and collective decision making, and to support its outcomes.
  • Be able to read and analyse information on how the House is run, finance information and progress against action/project plans.
  • Have a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Be enthusiastic about playing a part in ensuring the success and development of Elizabeth Gaskell’s House.
  • Someone who is generous with their skills and support.
  • A willingness to learn about charity governance.
  • Passionate about the role the House can play in the cultural life of Manchester.

Additional information:

Number of meetings per annum/time commitment: Approx. 5 hours per month. (see recruitment pack for more detail)

Daytime or evening meetings:  late afternoon/Evening meetings. Mainly on Zoom but some in-person.
