Time Commitment: Minimum 6 meetings per year

Closing date: 2024-02-29

For over 30 years the Trust through the Foxton Canal Museum has brought the remarkable history of the Foxton Locks site to life. This idyllic location was at the heart of the link between Leicestershire and the rest of the country during the Industrial revolution.

On this site Leicestershire was first connected to London by water in the 19th century (first by Staircase Locks and then by the extraordinary Inclined Plane Boat lift).

In these difficult times for all we urgently need to increase our Trustee numbers to ensure we not only continue but also develop our exciting future plans. (These can be influenced by new trustees!)

Museum Development Trustee

A strong interest in history & heritage is desirable – skills in any of the following would be a big help in this role;-

  • Organising on/off-site events, fundraising, recruitment and membership (existing & new) development

Collection Development and Administration Trustee

As an accredited museum our collections (and our records) are a vital part of our purpose and our vision for the future. We currently have insufficient people resources to make better and more meaningful use of the objects and documents we look after. The role covers;-

  • Administration, collection care, display creation & recruitment. Ideally this role will manage a team of volunteers to support you.

Experience of collections and a collection database is desirable for this role. We will compliment your experience through training either directly from our personnel but also through training opportunities offered by the many support organisations we engage with e.g. AIM, MDEM, and Arts Council.

The collection size is relatively small consisting of objects (700+) and documents/photos (1500+)
