Trustees are collectively responsible for:

  • Undertaking the general and specific duties of charity trustees to meet legal requirements and ensure that the organisation is well run.
  • Providing leadership, contributing to the setting, and shaping of Harlow Art Trust’s strategic direction and learning from the work as it develops and progresses.
  • Championing our collections and activities, promoting what we do to funders, partners and the wider public.
  • Contribute to working groups and offer valuable resource in terms of supporting, questioning, and holding to account the Staff. Trustees are active in various working groups to support the progression of programme planning, project development and wider management of Staff and finances, according to skills, expertise, and interests.
  • Working as part of the Board to ensure Harlow Art Trust functions within the legal and financial requirements of a UK registered charity and in time a company limited by guarantee and our constitution, and that we strive for best practice.

Knowledge and experience – you will bring:

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: leadership, legal, marketing, finance, human resources, education, built environment, community engagement, charity sector as well as art and sculpture.
  • Understanding of the principles of good governance, and of the respective roles of the Board and Staff team in working together.
  • Previous experience of sitting on a Board or other governing body or committee is desirable, but not essential as we are also looking for people who are new to being a Trustee and we will be offering training and mentoring opportunities for Trustees.

Number of meetings per annum/time commitment:

  • 4 evening in-person trust meetings per year.
  • Bi-monthly contribution to a task group (could be hybrid or remote).
  • An annual trustee away day.

Daytime or evening meetings: Evening for in person trust meetings. Day time for annual trustee away day.
