The Historic Dockyard Chatham, the best preserved of all Georgian dockyards, is the world’s most complete dockyard of the Age of Sail.  Upon the closure of the dockyard in 1984, The Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust was established as the custodian of the historic estate, to preserve and educate on the historic and architectural significance of The Historic Dockyard Chatham.

Today, The Historic Dockyard Chatham, is the leading example of a mixed-use heritage estate.  A vitally significant historic estate delivering outstanding preservation, an award-winning independent museum, commercial estate, Higher Education campus, leading film location. and residential community.

The role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a passionate team, to share your professional skills and life experience, and further strengthen an established and much-loved organisation.  Being part of the Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust Board is a highly rewarding role; The Historic Dockyard is a unique place deeply rooted in a rich heritage.

We are looking for a new trustee with a finance specialism, someone who will contribute to the strategic and business oversight of the organisation, ensuring high standards of corporate governance, financial and risk management.

In addition to the desired skillsets outlined above, candidates should also bring a passion for heritage and the work of the Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust, a capacity to think strategically and contribute to the Trust’s direction, an understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.

Trustees are required to attend four Board meetings per year, and other sub-committee meetings usually held at The Historic Dockyard Chatham or remotely. Some additional time will be required to study papers, attend events and undertake other representational engagements. The posts are unpaid, but travel expenses can be claimed.
