Imperial War Museums (IWM) is seeking two new external members for its Estates Advisory Committee. One with a commercial property/development background, and another with expertise and experience in facilities management.
Candidates for both roles should demonstrate:
- Experience of working with/ managing a diverse, complex estate
- Practical experience of property development and implementation of estates strategy
- Practical experience in estate management and infrastructure
- Expertise and/ or practical experience of project or programme management on a significant scale, in an estates/ property environment
- Awareness and understanding of the public procurement rules and framework would be beneficial
- Knowledge or experience of built heritage in a conservation or historical context.
Candidates for the property role should be a chartered surveyor (RICS) and should be able to demonstrate:
- Detailed understanding of property development and the construction management and development process from inception to delivery
- Experience of leadership roles on major development projects and have strong network connections
- Ability to deliver capital projects and on complex live sites that remain open to the public throughout the works
- A practical understanding of relevant legal frameworks including but not limited to spanning building safety regulations
- A technical understanding of complex planning application requirements and regulations on a local and national level.
Candidates for the facilities management role should demonstrate:
- Expertise in health and safety and compliance, requirements and regulations in a workplace environment (preferably across the across the visitor attraction field, though not essential)
- Expertise in building services regulations
- Experience of contract management
- Understanding of interaction between planned/ reactive maintenance and asset lifecycles
- Good Understanding of risk management, assessment and mitigations.

Number of meetings per annum/time commitment:
These appointments will be for an initial period of three years and subject to the approval of the IWM Board of Trustees. External members may serve a maximum of three terms.
Members will be expected to allocate sufficient time to the role: to read papers, attend minimum four meetings per year and provide informal advice on specific projects as required outside of meetings. Meetings are usually held during the week, during working hours at IWM London with the option to join meetings remotely.
