About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to help lead a vibrant Heritage Centre with a volunteer front of house team, ensuring high standards in customer care and visitor experience. You will oversee the everyday operation of the centre and help ensure its continued success and vitality, working with a dedicated team of trustees and volunteers.

In this role you will:

  • Attend monthly board meetings with the Trustees
  • Work with the Trustees to develop and implement the Heritage Centres aims and objectives to full fill the Heritage Centre’s Business Plan
  • Connect with local businesses, schools, Knutsford Town Council, Cheshire East Council and others to improve the local Heritage resource and facilities which the Centre can provide
  • Hold monthly meetings with volunteers and co-ordinate with the team leaders for varied sections including Administration, Shop, Archives and Collections, Garden, Walks and Talks, Exhibitions and Website
  • Hold responsibility for the management, recruitment, induction, training and retention of volunteers
  • Oversee volunteer shift bookings and ensure maximum coverage
  • Allocate and oversee volunteer tasks with the focus on visitor services and administration
  • Update existing written procedures and write new ones to ensure the effective management of the centre
  • Assist with retail initiatives and the promotion of Heritage Centre services such as events and education
  • Deal with enquiries in conjunction with other volunteer leads
  • Assist with the set up and delivery of events including exhibitions which may include research and construction of displays
  • Support other Heritage Centre team members in a broad range of work related activities
  • Co-ordinate with the Friends of Knutsford Heritage Centre fundraising activities
  • Monitor income and expenditure in line with approved budget
  • Work towards obtaining Accredited Museum status
  • Assist with applications for grant funding were appropriate
  • Ensure compliance with relevant heath and safety procedures to ensure the safety of volunteers and visitors.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have qualifications and/or work experience in a relevant field
  • Have previous experience of managing volunteers, working in a retail environment, managing exhibitions and/or working in a heritage/museum environment
  • Be a natural people person with excellent spoken and written communication skills and good interpersonal skills
  • Have vision to proactively drive the continual improvement of the Heritage Centre
  • Have strong IT skills.
