Trustee vacancy – Catalyst Science Discovery Centre
Catalyst Science Discovery Centre and Museum Trust is seeking to appoint a Chair of Trustees to succeed Dr Diana Leitch MBE, FRSC who has undertaken the role for the past four years. At the same time, the Trust is seeking to appoint three Trustees to replace current Trustees who are retiring after long service on the Board of Catalyst.
Chair of the Board of Trustees
The Trust is seeking to appoint a new Chair of the Board of Trustees to provide inspiration, leadership and guidance in strategic development and governance and to be an effective advocate for the Trust. The Chair would be expected to act as a figurehead, representative of Catalyst, at key meetings with stakeholders. Experience and enthusiasm for the subject sector in which Catalyst operates would also be expected. In this role you will be the line manager of the CEO and you will work alongside the CEO and the senior leadership team and Board to push forward on a new 5 year strategy and development plan for Catalyst and to build on its 35 year reputation as the UK’s only museum of the chemical industry and a science discovery centre.
Trustees
The Trust is seeking to appoint three Trustees with separate expertise in financial accounting, social media and digital marketing and with mainstream primary and secondary school science knowledge and experience and enthusiasm for the subject sector in which we operate. Applicants will ideally have a background in these areas but applications from people with other skills will be considered. As a Trustee you will work alongside the senior leadership team and Board to push forward on a new 5 year development plan for Catalyst and to build on its 35 year reputation as the UK’s only museum of the chemical industry and a science discovery centre.

Board positions are voluntary but travel expenses can be provided if necessary. Potential applicants are expected to have the experience to undertake this post and also the time to commit to the work involved.
Number of meetings per annum/time commitment:
4 x Board meetings per annum, I x Annual General Meeting, 1 x Board Strategy Day,
Attendance at Sub Committees 4 x per annum pus attendance at other events or meetings as requested by the CEO or one of the senior leadership team. Regular in-person and electronic contact with the CEO is expected.
Daytime or evening meetings:
Board meetings and AGM are normally late afternoon starting at 4pm at Catalyst. Other meetings are during the daytime to accommodate working patterns of participants. Events are held during the daytime or evening and occasionally weekends. Hybrid meetings, virtual and in person, are possible.
