Trustee vacancy – Chair – Paxton House
About the Role
The Paxton Trust is looking to appoint a new Chair to provide strategic leadership and direction to its Board of Trustees, working collaboratively with the CEO, staff and colleagues on the Board to deliver the charitable objectives and activities for which the Trust was established. An exciting and fulfilling opportunity to make a real difference.
Whilst knowledge of the charitable heritage sector would be an advantage, most essential is the commitment of the Chair to our vision: a historic house, National Collections and estate that continue to evolve in order to entertain, inform and engage public understanding of its demonstrable significance and unique sense of place, together with an ability to enhance the reputation and reach of the Trust.
About Paxton House
Paxton House is an outstanding Grade A listed Georgian house with Recognised collections, set in 80 acres of beautiful, landscaped grounds on the banks of the Tweed, in the Scottish Borders. It has been open to the public since 1992. Activities include: a permanent exhibition on Caribbean connections, temporary exhibitions, tea-room, education programme, events, and guided tours. The Regency-period Picture Gallery displays masterpieces on loan from our partner, the National Galleries of Scotland. The Paxton Trust, a Scottish charity, cares for the house, its collections including internationally important furniture and costume, and grounds. The Paxton Trust was short-listed for the ‘Museums Change Lives – Reimagining the Museum Award’ in 2022.
‘Another world inside the gates; another country at the bottom of the garden’.
