Trustee vacancy – Crystal Palace Museum

Overview:

The Crystal Palace Museum seeks an Honorary Treasurer to maintain the museum accounts, throughout the year, and prepare the end of year report and accounts, for external review, prior to filing with Companies House and The Charities Commission.

Specific Tasks Include:

  1. Maintain records of the museum’s receipts and payments.
  2. Authorising payment of trustee’s expenses.
  3. Preparation of Gift Aid and GASDS claims to HMRC.
  4. To give financial updates at Trustees’ Meetings and financial guidance as appropriate.
  5. To continually review processes to ensure financial integrity.
  6. To prepare the Trial Balance, Receipts & Payment Summary, Balance Sheet, Fixed Asset Register and Sources and Application of Funds for the 31st December year end accounts.

Method:

The accounts are currently maintained and compiled on Excel spreadsheets. This system could be maintained, or transferred to a proprietary accounting software package, by the new incumbent. A full handover and ongoing support, as required, will be available from the outgoing incumbent.

Commitment Required:

This is estimated at 2-5 hours per month (including attending meetings) and c15-20 hours to prepare the final year end Report & Accounts. A minimum of 3-5 years commitment to the role is desirable. 

Person profile:

     The role is ideally suited to either:

  1. A recently retired/semi-retired accountant or;
  2. A part-qualified accountant wishing to broaden their experience and enhance their CV.

In either case it is preferable to have an interest in the Crystal Palace, and wish to make a contribution to the local community.
