Englesea Brook Statement of Purpose

Englesea Brook Chapel and Museum is a heritage community that welcomes all to share in the unique transformative story of Primitive Methodism, providing opportunity for learning, research, worship and engaging with our collection.

At Englesea Brook, we aim to:

  • Be inclusive and accessible to diverse audiences through creative approaches
  • Introduce people to the story of Primitive Methodism and recognise its contemporary relevance
  • Maintain our collection to museum sector standards, in order to make it available to current and future audiences
  • Resource the Methodist Church in mission, by highlighting Primitive Methodism’s contribution to the Methodist story
  • Demonstrate the influence of Primitive Methodism in challenging injustice and supporting social change.
  • Work in partnership with others. 

Englesea Brook Executive – Vacancies

Englesea Brook Chapel and Museum is keen to seek new members for the Executive Committee, which acts like Trustees. The Trustee body is the Chester and Stoke on Trent Methodist District Policy Committee (DPC) who devolve the management of this project to the Executive Committee.

We are seeking to appoint new members to help develop Englesea Brook Chapel and Museum, by adding specific skills and competencies within one or more of the following areas:

  • Fundraising
  • Education and/or Research
  • Heritage and Museums
  • Methodist history

The role of the management group is to ensure oversight of the following aspects of the Chapel and Museum (more details can be found in the Terms of Reference document):

  • Ensuring there is a clear vision for the project
  • Strategic direction for the Museum
  • Development and periodic review of the Museum aims and objectives.
  • Gaining and keeping Museum Accreditation
  • Forward plan development and delivery
  • Financial planning and reporting
  • Fundraising and Hassall Road Book Emporium
  • The ‘Friends of Englesea Brook’ scheme
  • Staffing shape, role profiles and employment procedures.
  • Policies and procedures for running EB C&M, including risk assessments
  • Liaison with Connexional Heritage committee and other Methodist Heritage sites
  • Create and maintain the risk register
  • Volunteers/volunteering procedures
  • Maintaining and management of property – at both Englesea Brook, and the Alsager Book Emporium on Hassall Road.
  • Safeguarding
  • Advocating on behalf of Englesea Brook Chapel and Museum. 

In addition to the above duties, each member should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience she/he/they has to help the Executive Committee reach sound decisions. These may involve scrutinising Board and meeting papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives and other issues in which the Trustee has special expertise.

Number of meetings per annum/time commitment: 4 meetings per year plus an annual Away Day with staff. Any time spent onsite, visiting staff and supporting events is very much welcomed.

Daytime or evening meetings: Our meetings are via Zoom and have usually alternated between daytime and evening meetings.
