Trustee vacancy – Museum of Cider

The trustee body, Hereford Cider Museum Trust, which runs the Museum of Cider, is hoping to recruit a new trustee who is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about education for all ages. You might be a retired teacher, or someone who has worked in informal education in the community, but you will be the sort of person who loves to enthuse and share knowledge with others, to help us inspire museum visitors.

The Trust was first founded in 1973, and this year marks 50 years of saving and promoting the history and art of cider.

Education and Outreach Trustee

Charitable Objective

To advance education for the public benefit in the history of the cider and perry industry and related agricultural, orcharding and industrial processes by maintaining a museum for the public benefit.

Trustee Vacancy – Education and Outreach

Whilst the museum has regular, pre-arranged visits from local schools, there is currently no outreach work carried out. The museum has some activity-based areas throughout the museum display areas, to encourage greater participation in the stories of cider making and apple orchard history, but runs no specific activities aimed at a younger audience.

Education and perhaps more importantly outreach will be an area of focus for the museum in the next 5 years and outlined in the forward plan. It has been recognised that the current trustees do not have strong skills or experience in these areas.

The Trust is looking to recruit a new trustee to the board who has experience in education and outreach and would be able to take on the role of designated safeguarding trustee.

Areas of experience could include

  • Teaching
  • Educational outreach in a museum or arts establishment working directly with schools
  • Safeguarding experience or training
  • Education officer for activity centres working with local schools.

This is a voluntary position, and trustees are expected to attend four board meetings per year in Hereford, where reasonable travel costs can be claimed. In addition, trustees are asked to support the museum team in specific areas of expertise.
