Trustee vacancy – Silverstone Heritage Limited
Silverstone Heritage Limited, the organisation behind Silverstone Museum, is currently looking to recruit additional trustees (on a voluntary basis) to strengthen our board and support with governance, decision making and protect the best interests of the organisation.
About Us
Silverstone Heritage Limited is an independent not-for-profit organisation set up to develop, open, and now operate, Silverstone Museum.
Our museum, located trackside at Silverstone Circuit, brings vividly to life the spirit, stories and action of Silverstone’s past, present and future legacy in British motorsport, through a dynamic, interactive and engaging visitor experience. Our visitors also get the opportunity to get up close and personal to some iconic cars, vehicles and items synonymous with Silverstone and British motor racing.
As well as operating our museum, we house and manage a growing Collections & Research Centre, dedicated to preserving an impressive archive of documents are artefacts, protecting them for future generations.
The Role
This is a voluntary, unremunerated role (although reasonable expenses will be reimbursed in order to attend meetings), but we feel this is a great opportunity to grow your professional experience to compliment your existing skillset.
- The role will entail attending board meetings at least 4 times per year. This ideally will be in person (at Silverstone) however virtual attendance via video call is occasionally possible.
- Proactively input into these meetings with your professional view and opinions.
- Vote on matters that are deemed to require ‘board approval’.
- Make reasonable efforts to attend or respond to ad-hoc calls or emails outside of board meetings that may require trustee input or decision making.
- Where able to, provide support, advice or counsel to the CEO or wider management team on areas where your particular expertise and experience can benefit the organisation.
- Be an advocate for the museum and its work to your professional network.
About You
We are looking to develop a diverse Board, in every way so we therefore welcome expressions of interest from anyone who feels that they could make a valuable contribution to our Board and our organisation, regardless of any pre-conceived assumptions as to who a Trustee on a not-for-profit Board should be.
You do not need to have experience of being a Trustee or part of a Board before, and you do not necessarily need to have experience in the not-for-profit, museum or heritage sectors.
It is not an absolute necessity for you to work within, or have extensive knowledge of, the motorsport world.
We’d therefore welcome interest from any background or experience, although particular skills and expertise we feel could especially benefit us right now include; commercial trading experience, an operations and visitor experience background, those working in the motorsport industry, academia or education, experience of securing sponsorship and partnerships, experience of fundraising or those with board governance expertise.
