Trustee vacancy – Stroud District (Cowle) Museum Trust

The Museum in the Park attracts some 55,000-60,000 visitors a year to the Museum in the Park; it is a popular and much-loved community service and a fantastic resource for the District.  The museum is also highly regarded in the museum sector. In addition to a core paid team the service is supported by volunteers.  At the heart of the service are the collections which underpin all activities and are legally owned by the Cowle Trust.

The Cowle Trust is seeking trustees that want to help continue this success. There are challenges facing the museum over the next five-ten years and as such it is an interesting and rewarding organisation to be involved with. We want people who will engage, challenge and support.

The Trustees will support the Museum Development Manager and their team in setting the strategic direction of the organisation and the staff will in turn ensure that the Board of Trustees have the information necessary for effective input.

The priorities for the vacancies include any of the following:

  • Local historical knowledge/knowledge of aspects of the collection and/or ability to advise on collections development
  • Experience of working in or for a museum or heritage attraction
  • Experience of working in the arts or creative sector
  • Knowledge or experience in relational databases and their application
  • Knowledge of the local and regional/national political picture
  • Ability to take a strategic perspective
  • Change Management and Forward Planning
  • Financial oversight.
