Administration Officer – The Whitaker
Salary: £16,300
Hours: Part time, 4 days per week, open to flexible arrangements (regular weekend attendance)
Location: The Whitaker, Rossendale

Job Purpose
We are are seeking a colleague with administration experience to support The Whitaker on its next stage of development into a larger museum and art gallery. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in enabling The Whitaker to deliver its ambitions, by implementing and managing daily operational systems and processes across the organisation.
The Whitaker is a forward-facing museum and art gallery that aims to foster inclusive, vibrant communities that thrive within our natural environment. We have recently undertaken a re-development of interpretation with a focus on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, connecting people, heritage and ideas with the past, the present and the future.
We are working to strengthen people’s rights and entitlements in terms of cultural access, education and participation in the life of the community. We are concerned with the sustainability of communities, the environment, local industries and the economy. We draw on history and heritage, to help imagine, design and begin to create the Valley we want for people and nature.
The Role
Fundamentally, we are looking for a new colleague that has a strong value base that is people focused. The Whitaker team is small, purpose-driven and agile, and our Administration Officer will need to be able to establish and implement effective and efficient administration systems and processes, be exceptionally well organised, flexible in approach and actions, and enjoy working as part of a team. There is an expectation that the successful candidate will be interested in the museum’s collection and activities.

Essential Knowledge and Skills
- Planning and coordinating administrative procedures and systems
- Experience of streamlining processes to improve effectiveness and efficiency
- Being solution focussed to challenges and being a positive contributor to a wider team
- Overseeing organisational systems e.g. sales, shop, food & beverage systems
- Proactively overseeing maintenance and/or service schedules e.g. alarm testing schedules, cleaning contracts, recycling, office supplies etc
- Supporting financial processes e.g. invoicing
- Proficient in MS Office
Desirable Knowledge & Skills
- Supporting the administration of events
- Comfortable of being customer facing if required e.g. supporting event ticket sales
- Diary management on behalf of colleagues
