Closing date: 12:00 am 20 October 2022
The Young Gallery, located on the first floor of the library in Salisbury, is home to two Accredited museums, The Edwin Young Collection and The John Creasey Museum. Both are registered charities, currently in the process of being merged to form the Young & Creasey Gallery Trust.
The collections consist primarily of works on paper, including prints, drawings and watercolours, photographs and ephemera, with an emphasis on British artists from the Victorian period and the 20th century (up to the present day) and works by John Creasey. If you are a museum professional with knowledge of the fine and visual arts and have good communication skills, you could be our new Art Curator.
About the role
The role involves ensuring the work of the Trust creates opportunities for local residents and visitors alike to experience our vision of ‘Art for All’. This supports the Wiltshire economy, reduces social isolation, improves mental health and community cohesion and generates civic pride.
Initial priorities will be to review collections management and documentation procedures and planning an exciting programme of exhibitions.
The role will initially be for 37 hours a week for six months. After this time the post will reduce to its original 22 hours per week, unless further funding can be attracted from other sources. The post holder will work during office hours with occasional late nights for events. The exact working days will be agreed by mutual consent.
About you
We will look to you to have good organisational skills to plan and manage exhibitions. Knowledge of museum accreditation standards and processes is essential.
An ability to manage your own time to provide access to high quality visual arts and cultural activities, and experience of giving talks and writing loan and grant applications are also important.
