Assistant Curator – National Maritime Museum Cornwall
Salary: £25,000
Hours: Part-time, 3 days per week (21 hours)
Term: 2 year fixed term contract
Location: National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Discovery Quay, Falmouth, TR11 3QY

We are seeking an Assistant Curator, who will provide a high standard of administrative and curatorial support to ensure the best care of our collection, both on display and in storage.
Assisting our Curator, the Assistant Curator, will have responsibility for the day-to-day management of new and former acquisitions to the Museum; from incoming offers through to coordinating the Acquisitions Committee Meetings, to labelling and storing the objects once accepted into the collection.
You will assist with handling, cataloguing, photographing and undertaking remedial conservation work on the collection, including undertaking object and gallery checks on a monthly basis.
Supporting the Curator, you will assist with the installation and removal of objects displayed in the Museum, maintaining and updating accurate records pertaining to our collection using the curatorial MODES collections management system.
You will also be expected to provide information to our Marketing Manager, so we can engage audiences by sharing compelling stories, making our collection more accessible.
It is therefore essential you have previous experience of working with collections, objects and archives, including the ability to write accessibly for different audiences.
Educated to degree level or have the equivalent experience and transferrable skills. Excellent communication and research skills with a good knowledge of computer systems, particularly Access. It would be desirable if you have a working knowledge of MODES and have photographic skills.
