Business Planning Consultant – Treadgold

This Brief sets out the requirements for the commissioning of an experienced Business Planning consultant to produce an Outline Business Plan to guide, inform and support a Feasibility Study to identify a sustainable future for the conservation and adaptation of Treadgold, an important grade II Listed Building in Portsmouth.

The project is funded by a small grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF).

The Treadgold site is of regional significance as an at-risk group of Grade II linked Victorian and Georgian buildings in Portsea, Portsmouth, holding varied and extensive heritage collections within the site. Formerly run as an industrial museum by Hampshire County Council the historic collection is essentially the contents of an iron mongers retail and manufacturing business established in 1809. There are thousands of objects ranging from boxes of horse nails and 19th and 20th century domestic fixtures and fittings to the contents of a blacksmiths forge and ancient heavy machinery used as part of the manufacturing process.

The employer for this commission is the John Pounds Community Trust (JPCT), a Registered Charity based in Portsmouth. The Trust seeks to provide ‘a gateway for a happier and healthier life for all’ through inclusive activities and services at the John Pounds Centre, and nearby Treadgold Warehouse and courtyard garden. It is anticipated that the commission will commence no later than the 1st August with a completion date of all work and issue of all final reports by no later than the end of November 2024.
