The Arkwright Society is looking for a Chief Executive Officer who will be responsible for the direction and management of this vibrant charity and accountable to its trustees.
Established in 1971, the Arkwright Society exists to promote and protect the industrial heritage of Cromford Mills. Cromford Mills was built by Sir Richard Arkwright in the 1770s and 1780s and is universally regarded as one of the most important heritage sites in the world. A crucial part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, the Arkwright Society works to conserve these historic buildings and bring them back into economic use through regeneration projects which are sensitive to their history and architecture. It currently operates with a board of eleven trustees, a senior management team of five, 45 employees, and a strong and passionate team of volunteers.
The Arkwright Society has just celebrated several big anniversaries: 50 years of the Arkwright Society, 20 years of World Heritage Site inscription, and 250 years since Arkwright built the first mill at Cromford. We are now embarking on our next phase of major development with important decisions to be made on the conservation and future use of its iconic buildings, including Arkwright’s first mill.
It is therefore a very exciting and opportune time to be joining the Arkwright Society as Chief Executive Officer. We are particularly looking for candidates with substantial knowledge and experience in Heritage Building Trusts, but those with experience in museums will also be considered. All applicants will need to show successful experience in fundraising for capital projects and managing them to completion.
Successful candidates will have held responsibility as Chief Executive Officer, or a senior leadership role, in a large organisation. They will be able to demonstrate their ability to motivate and manage people and teams, as well as build strong links with local communities and other national and regional cultural heritage organisations.
The Arkwright Society will offer competitive terms and conditions for this position. it is based in the beautiful village of Cromford which has good transport links and a strong sense of community.
The Arkwright Society is proud to be an equal opportunities employer and would welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and cultures.
