Brooklands Museum is the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation, and the home of Concorde. Located on the 30-acre site of the world’s first purpose-built motor racing circuit and the most productive aircraft factories in Europe in the twentieth century, Brooklands Museum welcomes over 185,000 visitors each year these are made up of members of the public, Brooklands Members, VIPs, corporate hospitality guests and school groups.

As Collections Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Brooklands Museums core collections and ensuring standard collections management best practice across the Brooklands Museum Trust site, including wider communities, key stakeholders and lenders.

Key Success Criteria of the role 

  • Appropriate, long-term Collections Management strategies and associated  programmes for the preservation and use of the Collection.
  • The access and use of the collection is maintained and is reflective of the Museum’s Vision and brand.
  • Effective management of the collection, in accordance with the Museum’s policies  and priorities.
  • All relevant compliance and health and safety regulations, relating to the collection and working with it, are complied with and appropriate records are maintained.

PERSON SPECIFICATION 

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience in collections management
  • Proven track record of working in the heritage sector
  • Knowledge of Spectrum standards and their application
  • Practical and applied skills in handling, accessing and using museum collections, in particular large objects
  • Knowledge of working in and around historic buildings and built heritage
  • Knowledge of the history of motorsports and aviation
  • Practical skills in handling, packing and transport of collection material Desirable
  • Knowledge of working with and using Modes and Axiell
  • Knowledge of working with historic vehicles and moving machinery
  • Experience of working with large objects and social industrial history collections
  • Knowledge of hazards in collections including asbestos, ionising radiation and firearms

Skills & Competencies:

  • IT skills and demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office packages, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
  • H&S Training
  • COSHH, Working at Height, manual handling
  • Demonstrable use of Collections Management Systems
