The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is looking to recruit the new role of Community Engagement and Placemaking Officer at an exciting time for our work with communities and in Stratford-upon-Avon. Over the first 18 months in post, you will lead on the delivery of our Museums Association/Esmee Fairbairn Collections Fund project exploring the colonial legacies of Shakespeare’s First Folio and support our multi-year programming theme The Women who made Shakespeare.
The Community Engagement and Placemaking Officer will deliver the Trust’s work in building and sustaining relationships with existing and new community partners and to develop and deliver co-produced projects and work which contributes to our museum programming and interpretation. You will lead a programme of community events and outreach activities to further the understanding of Shakespeare’s work, life, times and legacy to break down the barriers to participation.
To be successful in this role you should have experience of working with communities in a museum context, with a particular focus on overcoming barriers to access. You will have experience of working with the public and understanding the needs to be both relevant and reflective as an organisation. You will have excellent administrative, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. You should be able to work as part of a team, as well as independently with a willingness to work flexibly as required. You should have strong IT skills including the use of social media. You will have an interest and enthusiasm for Shakespeare and the role that museums can play in enriching opportunity and empowerment.
