Creative Programme Manager – National Horseracing Museum
Salary: £35,000

The National Horse Racing Museum celebrates the town’s status as the historic home of horseracing and sporting art. It was officially opened by Her Majesty The Queen on 3rd November 2016 and sits at the heart of the community on a five acre site in the centre of the town. NHRM is home to three charities: The National Horseracing Museum, the British Sporting Art Trust and the Retraining of Racehorses charity.
Job Description
Up to £35,000 depending on experience
Reports to: Packard Curator
Main purpose of Job:
The National Horseracing Museum holds a nationally significant collection of horseracing memorabilia, and cares for the collections of the British Sporting Art Trust. The Creative Programme Manager will be responsible for devising and delivering community focussed activities across all areas of museum activity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver a community-focussed programme of cultural and learning activities aligned with the museum’s collections and wider exhibition programme.
- Oversight of training and learning programmes.
- Maintain and develop partnerships with community groups in Newmarket and the wider region.
- Deliver advocacy for the museum and cultural life in Newmarket more generally.
- Manage a continuing programme of artist residencies and open exhibitions.
- Support a programme of community interventions across the NHRM site.
- Support community programmes to improve access to NHRM collections online and co-curation of collections and displays.
- Act as museum champion for accessibility, diversity and inclusion.
- Undertake any other relevant tasks as required.

Management of the schools programme.
Working with the Events Manager, Packard Curator, volunteers and community groups.to deliver the cultural programme.
Collaboration with colleagues across the Museum at all levels.

Projects run to time, and any issues are reported early and appropriately.
Compliance with legal and ethical frameworks.
Evaluation and reporting demonstrate impact and advocacy as appropriate.

Packard Curator: direct reporting: liaising, consulting, advising.
Museum Director: reporting, liaising, consulting, advising.
Commercial and marketing team: liaising, consulting, advising.
Collection Care Assistant and trainees: liaising, consulting, advising.
BSAT Administrator: liaising.
Volunteers: liaising, advising.
Person specification
Essential:
- A’levels in relevant subjects or equivalent experience
- IT literate with proficiency in Excel and Word
- Ability to synthesise and report on information orally and in writing
- Experience working with people and communities
- Awareness of different museum audiences and stakeholders
- Familiar with guidance and legislation in working with different audiences and young people
- Experience and awareness of Safeguarding procedures
- Work in community engagement for a museum or heritage attraction
- Work for a charity or organisation that engages with people
- Excellent co-ordination and time management
- Ability to plan and prioritise effectively
- Highly developed organisational skills
- Ability to grasp detail
- Experience of working to deadlines
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A flexible approach to work and the ability to maintain the role under pressure
- Self-motivated
- Ability to work within a variety of different teams
Desirable:
- Degree in a relevant subject, or equivalent experience
- Proficiency in assessing and implementing Health and Safety procedures
- Experiences of working collaboratively and in partnership
- Experience of working within museum projects
This role is subject to a DBS check.
Some evening and weekend work may be required.
