Burgh House is seeking a Curator to join the small dynamic management team at Burgh House. The job is perfect for an enthusiastic, motivated curator who can take this role and make it their own.

It is an exciting time for Burgh House. We have ambitious projects planned to reinterpret and redisplay our permanent collection creating a new centrepiece to our operation and ensuring our relevance for the 21st Century. We are looking for someone with fresh ideas who has the skills to create an exceptional and challenging programme of exhibitions and events in the environment of a small independent charity, making the most of limited budgets and space.

A generous grant from the Marie-Louise Motesiczky Trust makes this role even more exciting, allowing upgrades to our conservation and temporary exhibition gallery which will be renamed in Marie Louise’s honour, and help progress our work showcasing a wealth great artists and themes, many challenging, through our ambitious exhibition programme and our own collections, highlighting in particular the great contribution of emigres to Hampstead and the more overlooked lives of women, the LGBTQ+ community and persons of colour that make this area so rich in culture.

Job Outline

The Curator is responsible for the care, development and documentation of the collection, the curation of the exhibition programme and for overseeing the education and outreach work.

The purpose of Burgh House is to provide a welcoming space where everyone can discover the rich heritage of Hampstead, through engaging with our collection and participating in a diverse programme of cultural events. With our Access policy underpinning everything that we do senior staff must actively promote Burgh Houses values of:

Burgh House has a small dedicated team working together to set and achieve the aims and goals of the organisation. All senior staff as keyholders take a responsibility and pride for the appearance, security and everyday smooth running of the operation, doing what is necessary day to day to keep the charity running and growing. As a small team all staff must have an understanding of all aspects of the charity and a willingness to step in to cover and support when needed.
