Reporting to: The General Secretary of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland

Key working relationships: The Scottish Catholic Heritage Collections TRUSTEES / NATIONAL AND DIOCESAN ARCHIVISTS / ABERDEEN UNIVERSITY ARCHIVISTS

Other relevant information: The Scottish Catholic Heritage Collections Trust was established by the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland to oversee, interpret and care for the artefacts, historic archives and library previouslt held at the former Blairs College, Aberdeenshire.

General 

This post is that of Curator/Manager of the Catholic Museum of Scotland.   The Curator/Manager also provides assistance to the Bishops Conference of Scotland and the dioceses within Scotland to promote and develop the care of the heritage of the Catholic Church in Scotland.   It is intended that the Catholic Museum of Scotland will (re)-apply for Accreditation with Museums Galleries Scotland in due course, and the post-holder will play a lead role in preparing for and submitting the (re)-application.

The Catholic Museum of Scotland is in a period of change. The appointee will be required to contribute to new thinking about the future of the collection, and dynamically manage any change resulting from this.  This will include a move in 2023 to a new location at 229 Orr Street Glasgow (the offices of the Bishops Conference of Scotland), and the (re)-application for accreditation.

After the move, the post-holder will be based in Glasgow.   Until the move is complete, the postholder will be expected to travel between Blairs and Glasgow, to assist the present curator as and when necessary.

The post is full-time and permanent.

Flexible working is possible by prior consent with your line manager, but the candidate must also be available, as necessary, in-person and on site.

Salary

Salary is £29,000pa.   This may be increased dependent upon relevant experience.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Bishops Conference of Scotland (BCOS) pension scheme.
