Financial Controller (Designate) – The Historic Dockyard Chatham
Salary: £65,000
Hours: Full time
Location: Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust, Kent ME4 4TZ
Closing date: 10:00 am 19 July 2023
The Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust (the Trust) is looking to appoint a new Financial Controller (Designate). The Financial Controller (Designate) is a vital part of a planned and open succession process, with the current postholder retiring in Summer 2024. The appointment of the Financial Controller (Designate) offers the opportunity to work alongside the Trust’s experienced and long-standing Financial Controller ensuring an extended process of handover and transition.
As part of its corporate development and succession strategy the Trust is seeking to recruit a Financial Controller (Designate) capable of engaging with the Chief Executive, Senior Leadership team, Trustees, and subsidiary boards, to support strategic finance, regulatory and taxation matters as well as direct management of the accounts team and production of timely, accurate accounting information. The post-holder will assume key leadership responsibilities within the department and in ensuring the effective financial management of the Trust and its subsidiaries.
You will be able to produce management accounts and effective forecasting that is clear and informative. You will bring strong financial and IT experience to ensure financial systems and processes are robust and fit for purpose. You will be as equally comfortable with being strategic, as you are with rolling up your sleeves and being hands-on.
This is an exciting time to join the Trust as we achieve our long-held ambition to become financially self-sustaining on a revenue basis, near the end of the current Corporate Plan period, and commence the process of the development of the next Strategic Plan. We seek a forward thinking, creative and collaborative Financial Controller (Designate) who can work with colleagues to support the development and implementation of our next strategy
We are open minded to background, however you could come with commercial or charitable experience, property development / management, visitor attraction, heritage sectors, or the broader not for profit sector.
This role provides the opportunity to champion our charitable purpose of Preservation and Learning, focussed upon the dynamic re-use of the unique Historic Dockyard Chatham, through strong financial leadership. You will play a key role in building our financial sustainability, the delivery of our charitable purpose and realising our future potential.
