Project Summary  – Jewish Museum on the Move Project

The On the Move project aims to improve JML organisational resilience through the creation of a new operating model around collections engagement and learning programmes delivered in temporary cultural and Jewish community venues. Overseen by external consultant Project Managers, Counterculture, the project aims to build up the skills and expertise of the organisational leadership, including a new Head of Learning position and 3 new trustees to lead the Museum’s next phase of development. Development of a fundraising strategy through the first year of the new model and identification of key donors and grant opportunities will help secure a sustainable financial future for the Museum.

The project provides new ways to share the JML collections through displays, online and loans.   The Museum is delivering a new temporary display programme showcasing some of the collections in selected London venues and some regional partnership venues, such as synagogues, other cultural heritage organisations and community centres/libraries.

Alongside these displays will be the lending library loans of JML collections to other heritage sector organisations to enhance their planned exhibitions. Online platforms will be set up to provide images and data about our collections and stunning 3D images will be made available via the Museum website over the next few months.

The Project also aims to develop the current learning offer as part of the Museum’s core delivery in 2024. Community outreach activity will continue to be delivered to schools through virtual classrooms and broadcasts from October 2023 with in person workshops starting from Easter 2024 in partner venues. This project will develop and build on the excellent learning expertise within the Museum and support the creation of new innovative programmes for schools and communities.
