A talented professional is sought to lead our collections and interpretation team.

York Minster has been the centre of Christianity in the north of England since the 7th Century and today is a thriving place of worship, a visitor attraction and a site of historic interest. We hold over 300,000 objects that date back to the Roman Fortress that sat on the site including silver, textiles and archaeology. Our Undercroft Museum in the only accredited museum within a cathedral in the country and displays many treasures for public access. We also have the largest accredited library in a cathedral with over 90,000 volumes that include the 1,000 year old York Gospels. Situated in the 13th Century Old Palace, this modern reference and lending library, run in partnership with the University of York sits alongside our Archives, Collections Department and Conservation Studio. We have ambitions to redevelop this site over the next ten years to create a state of the art Discovery Centre.

This post will appeal to applicants with a strong academic or museum background and evidenced professional practice in relevant settings. We want to appoint someone who shares our passion for quality, inclusion and public engagement whilst ensuring the appropriate standard of care of our diverse collection. To succeed in the role you will need excellent knowledge of Museums/Archives Accreditation and be willing to learn about the Care of Cathedrals Measure. You will have a proven track record of staff leadership and contribution to managerial decision making and strategic direction. We are seeking a fluent communicator who can build and sustain effective internal and external relationships.
