Heritage Manager at Port Sunlight Village Trust

Job Title: Heritage Manager
Salary: £27,000
Term: Permanent
Location: Port Sunlight Village Trust
Closing date: 12:00 am 19 April 2021

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic heritage professional to lead the delivery of Port Sunlight’s Conservation Management Plan. You will be a strong manager adept at running complex projects and working effectively with volunteers, colleagues, consultants, and contractors. Experience of developing sustainable partnerships and a passion for engaging people in heritage is essential. Knowledge of building conservation and planning policy would also be extremely advantageous.

This is a brand-new post created at an exciting moment in PSVT’s evolution. To whet your appetite, in 2021 we will:

  • Review our 10-year Conservation Management Plan;
  • co-commission a public realm strategy with Wirral Council;
  • undertake condition assessments of our monuments and landscape features;
  • complete a significance study;
  • and develop an enforcement strategy.

Described as an industrial workers village, Port Sunlight is one of the finest surviving examples of its kind in the UK. A Conservation Area, nearly every building and monument is Grade II listed and some of our landscapes are registered. Each year we welcome approximately 300,000 visitors who come to admire the quality and diversity of the architecture, learn more about the village’s rich history and heritage, and take a stroll around the green spaces. We are a living village too, with approximately 2,000 residents living in the original workers cottages and playing an important role in making the village such a special place.

PSVT is a charity and custodian of Port Sunlight; a heritage site, visitor destination, and 21st century community. Our responsibilities are broad and our business diverse, but our team is comparatively small. What we lack in size we make up for in our approach and ambition. Our vision is to make “Port Sunlight, an inspiring place to live, work and visit.” Our mission “We are guardians of a unique and beautiful village, working with its community to ensure a great quality of life for residents and to celebrate William Lever’s amazing legacy through cultural and learning experiences for all”. You can find out more about us here and on our other website and by reading our 5-year Strategic Plan.

PSVT is committed to ensuring that applicants for all paid or voluntary positions are provided with equality of opportunity, and applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, offending background, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships. We are also committed to ensuring our recruitment processes are accessible and that all reasonable adjustments are made to enable individuals to carry out their roles effectively.

For an application pack, including a copy of the full 10-year Conservation Management Plan, call 0151 644 4800 or email [email protected] Please note CVs will not be accepted and all applications should be submitted electronically.
