Are you passionate about the outdoors and inspiring children to feel a connection with nature?  We use the culture of the Stone to Iron Age as a vehicle for the children’s imagination and to develop an understanding of community and their place in society.

Why we need you: We are looking for new junior education officer to support our education team and assist with activities and customer service on our innovative education and events programme for school groups and visitors at Celtic Harmony Camp, the Prehistory settlement, near Hertford.

Celtic Harmony is an award-winning education charity, providing hands-on cultural heritage education of ancient Britain. We aim to increase understanding of the natural world and create a more sustainable way of life for future generations.

The education and events program has a unique hands-on approach to learning, where visitors experience Prehistory during school trips and family events. Celtic Harmony Camp is a Covid secure venue with the Good to Go pledge from Visit England and has the Learning Outside the Classroom quality badge for outdoor education provision.

The education team dress in uniform when working with volunteers and during the food service and wear Celtic costume when delivering activities, to provide an enjoyable experience of life in ancient Britain. There is a range of school days from Farmers to Warriors that teachers choose from, with hands-on age-appropriate activities, such as grinding grain on quern stones to archery and bat walks. The job is varied and includes assistance with catering, delivering of activities, site maintenance and communication.

The ideal candidate will:

  • have a minimum of 1 year experience in outdoor education
  • have a degree or diploma in outdoor education / archaeology / history / child related qualification.
  • be interested in primitive skills and ancient culture.
  • have an enthusiasm to develop a career in the field of outdoor heritage education
  • be a good team player.
  • own car due to the rural location of the site.

Salary: £20,000 – £22,000 gross per annum pro rata, on a monthly rota including weekends. There is career progression with the opportunity to becoming an Education Officer.
