Learning Assistant – Huguenot Museum

Job Title: Learning Assistant
Hours: Part time
Location: Huguenot Museum, 95 High Street, Rochester ME1 1LX
Closing date: 12:00 am 6 November 2023

Exciting opportunity for an energetic individual with teaching experience and skills to contribute to a successful future for an established museum.

The Huguenot Museum in Rochester is seeking to appoint a Learning Assistant to promote engagement with the experience of Britain’s first refugees. The museum, which opened in 2015 following generous support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, illustrates the story of French Protestant refugees. Having escaped persecution to settle in Britain, they subsequently made an enormous and enduring impact in the worlds of finance, industry, medicine, literature, arts, and crafts. The Museum is working towards A New Future supported by a NLHF resilience grant.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will support the use of the museum by hosting formal and informal learning groups and leading activities and learning programmes in the galleries and dedicated learning space. You will work closely with the Operations Manager and Visitor Experience Host(s) and volunteers.

Familiarity with key stages (EYFS, KS1,2,3,4&5) and experience of teaching groups of home educated young people would be an advantage. You will support pre-arranged informal learning visits to the museum by leading programmes and activities to families, adult groups and foreign language students visiting the museum. You will support the Operations Manager with the delivery of occasional pre-arranged tours of the museum and the wider French Hospital site.

You will undertake all activities in accordance with the Museums Health & Safety Policy.

Part-time post.

Salary: hourly rate depending on experience.
