Learning Officer – Gloucester Cathedral
Salary: £25,716
Location: Gloucester Cathedral, College Green, Gloucester, GL1 2LY
Closing date: 9:00 am 30 October 2023
Come and be a part of 1,300 years of learning
Gloucester Cathedral is one of the most significant spiritual, educational and heritage destinations in the South West. A place of Christian worship and learning for over 1,300 years, we remain open for everyone, 365 days a year. A living breathing building full of activity, we welcome approximately 400 000 visitors from all over the world each year and work with around 16,000 participants in our schools and families programming.
The Learning and Participation Team leads on events ranging from the Knife Angel in February 2023, which drew 130,000 people, to a Breakfast Club for the city’s homeless, regular tours of the medieval library, a Wellbeing Gardening Group and, crucially, a well-regarded range of school tours and an increasingly creative programme of events for children and families in the school holidays.
This is where you come in. As Learning Officer you will be responsible for refreshing, redesigning and ensuring the delivery of our programme of school tours. You will review our existing range of learning resources and design new and innovative ways of presenting the Cathedral to schools, children, and young people. You will lead on developing our offer to children and families during the school holidays and provide education input into wider Cathedral programming. You will work with a team of volunteers, engaging them and using their skills to best effect.
We are looking for someone with a track record in the imaginative delivery of learning and engagement experiences to audiences including children, young people and families within an educational, heritage or cultural setting, who shows sympathy with the Christian ethos of the Cathedral. To make a success of this role you must be a strong team player with excellent organisational skills, high resilience, the ability to build productive working relationships across teams and with volunteers, a creative mind coupled with the ability to put ideas into action and see projects through, a working understanding of Religious Studies and/or History curricula and of best practice in the delivery of educational programming.
This is a particularly exciting time to be joining the team as you will also be working with colleagues on the development and implementation of a new Learning and Participation Strategy for the Cathedral. Overall, your role will be to help us ensure that learning and education are at the forefront of the Cathedral’s offer and that we further widen and diversify our audience.
Salary: Band 7 (£25,716 – £30,420)
Closing date: 9am on Monday 30 October 2023.
Interviews will be held Wednesday 8 November 2023.
