Hours: 36 hours per week – Mon-Fri, including occasional weekends

The Working Class Movement Library houses one of the country’s most preeminent collections of material relating to and created by the working class of Britain and Ireland, including international events and campaigns, reflecting its history, associations and culture from the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution to the present day.

Job purpose

The Trustees of the Working Class Movement Library seek an enthusiastic and creative Library Manager to lead the WCML in its next stage of development. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with the Trustees to further develop the Library as an effective and vibrant educational resource, promoting the history of the working class and its movements. The Library manager will play a pivotal role in raising the profile of this nationally and internationally important institution and in diversifying and increasing audiences as well as our pool of committed volunteers.

To manage day to day operations within the Library, including its exhibitions, visitors and events and to promote the Library’s collection and activities to the broadest audience.

To provide leadership, motivation and be responsible for the management of a small number of permanent staff including a Librarian and a Library Assistant and a larger group of volunteers who are invaluable to the operations of the Library.

To foster an inclusive atmosphere, connecting people with our unique collection and archive and to deliver the strategic objectives of the Trust.
