Marketing & Sales Director – Brooklands Museum

Job Title: Marketing & Sales Director
Salary: £48,000
Hours: Full time
Term: Permanent
Location: Brooklands Museum, Surrey
Closing date: 12:00 am 22 June 2023

Brooklands Museum is an award-winning, internationally important, 32 acre heritage attraction in Weybridge, Surrey. It tells the story of innovation and human endeavour in motorsport and aviation. It is a registered charity, underpinned by principles of public benefit and inclusion.

The new Marketing and Sales Director will join at an exciting time, as we plan significant investment in the Museum’s future. They will have the rare opportunity to play a pivotal role within a dynamic team, who are defining how the site will be transformed to broaden its appeal as a visitor attraction, and drive increased income and footfall. Our audience research and insight shows a large, untapped market within an hour’s travel time, and the Marketing and Sales Director will ensure we reach them.

We are looking for a strategic, commercially minded person who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working collaboratively and has a track record of achieving ambitious growth targets. They will have a sound understanding across traditional marketing, digital and CRM and be experienced in developing overarching marketing strategies. They will be confident in translating strategy into effective plans and imaginative campaigns, and in prioritising and making choices that use the resources available creatively.

As a former finalist for Museum of the Year and with an award-winning learning programme that includes the Brooklands Innovation Academy, Brooklands Museum is known for its role in inspiring a new generation to be innovators and entrepreneurs, drawing on the legacy of men and women who worked at the site, in the twentieth century. This makes for a strong core product, which research shows appeals to a wide range of audiences. Visitor feedback is excellent.

In the past few years there have been many successes, despite the challenges presented by the pandemic. These include two seasons of its own TV series on Yesterday channel, a new exhibition with McLaren Automotive, a brand partnership with luxury hotel, The Peninsula, London, and a partnership with Heritage Skills Academy to bring apprenticeship training to the site.

Priorities for the first 18 months

  • Use the comprehensive, existing research and insight to develop a three-year strategy that will significantly grow footfall and income, from visitors and members, from the current base of £2.25m
  • Turn the strategy into actionable, effective plans that meet targets
  • Create high quality, brand-led campaigns, which use the budget available creatively, and reach targeted audiences
  • Deliver improvements to the website and ticketing that increase sales and improve the user experience
  • Create and implement a communications strategy that raises Brooklands Museum’s profile with key stakeholders, donors and funders
