Job Title: Museum Development Consultant
Term: 30 May 2022 to 30 November 2022
Location: Tenbury Museum, Worcestershire
Closing date: 12:00 am 13 May 2022

This temporary contract is offered by Tenbury Wells Museum and History Group CIO to an experienced,  freelance consultant, with knowledge of the National Lottery Heritage Fund requirements and proven ability to work with clients, other professionals and local communities to deliver successful project outcomes.

Background

Tenbury Wells Museum and History Group CIO is an active group of volunteers that manage the museum in Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire. The museum is currently located in a former Victorian school on the outskirts of the town. The building is cramped and has no facilities or services for the volunteers or visitors and is increasingly unfit for purpose. The Museum Group has been looking for alternative premises for several years.

In 2017 Tesco opened a new store in the town and as part of its site acquisition purchased the Old Fire Station, a Grade II Listed building, at the entrance to the town. The building was used as a site office for the contractor during store development but has been redundant since. The Museum Group approached Tesco with regards a potential community asset transfer. Tesco confirmed its agreement to a long lease to the Museum, subject to funding and planning permission being secured.

A Condition Survey has been undertaken on the building and Planning permission and Listed Building Consent was secured in December 2020. To date, the museum group has submitted one previous National Lottery Grant for Heritage application, which was unsuccessful (see Relocation page for timeline).

The Project

The overall brief is to ensure that the Museum Group is in the best possible position to submit a successful first round application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
