York Museums Trust are seeking two experienced museum professionals to join the Museum Development Yorkshire team:

Museum Development Officer, North Yorkshire

  • Fixed-term contract until 31 March 2024, 22.2 hours per week worked flexibly
  • Salary: £18,687.60-£22,131 per annum (£31,146-£36,885 fte) YMT Grade 5

Museum Development Officer, Workforce Development 

  • Fixed-term contract until 31 July 2023, 18.5 hours per week worked flexibly
  • Salary: £15,573-£18442.50 per annum (£31,146-£36,885 fte) YMT Grade 5

Museum Development is funded by Arts Council England (ACE) as part of a national programme. In Yorkshire, Museum Development is delivered by York Museums Trust through Museum Development Yorkshire (MDY). It supports museums across Yorkshire to manage their resources, look after their collections and provide services to their audiences in ways that meet or exceed recognised standards within the museum sector 

These two posts will join an established team, working to develop excellence within small and medium sized museums in the Yorkshire and Humber region. The successful candidates will take a strategic approach to professional leadership, organisational development, programmes and partnerships.    

They will be experienced in working at a management level in museums or heritage management.  They will have a good understanding of national museum, third sector and public sector issues and have substantial experience of consultancy, facilitation, mentoring and coaching in a museum or heritage environment.  

Due to the nature of the job it is essential that you can work some evenings and weekends and are willing and able to travel both regionally and nationally.  

The Museum Development Officer, North Yorkshire will be responsible for maintaining and building existing relationships across the museums of North Yorkshire, as well as managing projects and delivering focused consultancy with museums across the region. This role involves visiting museums in the Yorkshire area, so flexibility and the ability to travel independently widely within the region is essential to be successful in the role.    

The Museum Development Officer, Workforce Development will lead on regional initiatives focusing on workforce and professional development, leading to organisational resilience and development. The role includes responsibility for running our training and networking events programme during the secondment of the postholder to Head of Museum Development Yorkshire. This role also includes occasional travel to museums in the Yorkshire area, so flexibility and the ability to travel independently widely within the region is required.
