Job Details

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced museum professional, with project management and museum development experience, to lead our exciting new ‘Bright Future: Saltaire Collection’ project. Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, this project aims to secure the future sustainability of our charity and improve access to our growing museum collection.

You will conduct options appraisal and feasibility studies and manage consultancies, with a budget for working with museum design companies. You will work alongside a board of trustees, our experienced curatorial and event volunteers, and be supported by a small project management team of two trustees and up to 2 community representatives.

The Saltaire Historical Collection is managed by the Saltaire World Heritage Education Association (SWHEA), an independent charitable body with 8 trustees, currently engaged in working toward Museum Accreditation. Management of the collection is currently wholly voluntary, and our 18 volunteers are skilled in curatorial and other tasks. It is a warm, welcoming and inclusive place to work, situated in the World Heritage site of Saltaire.

The Collection is currently located within an FE College which means that visits are by appointment only. Good progress has been made on museum Accreditation policies and procedures, and the priority is now to identify a new publicly accessible location, explore museum design and fit out options, and establish likely costs.

During 2023, SWHEA led local partnership work to assess the barriers to accessing Saltaire’s heritage for ethnic minority and disabled communities in the Bradford District. The Project Manager will ensure these partnerships with key community groups continue throughout the ‘Bright Future’ project to ensure location and design features will mitigate barriers to access. SWHEA also works in partnership with Bradford Museums and Galleries service, the World Heritage Officer, local schools and universities and Saltaire community groups.
