The Great North Museum: Hancock is managed by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM) on behalf of Newcastle University. We are looking to appoint a new Museum Manager for Great North Museum: Hancock to develop its public programme, support university research, ensure collections care and access and achieve commercial income targets.

This post-holder will also be part of the TWAM leadership team, supporting the business planning and strategic direction of the organisation which manages 9 museums and galleries across Tyneside as well as the Tyne and Wear Archives.

The museum opened in its existing premises in 1884 and was merged with two more museums in May 2009 as part of a £26 million capital development to become the Great North Museum: Hancock. It has attracted more than 5 million visitors since 2009.

The Museum attracts audiences of all ages and backgrounds but has a particularly large and loyal family audience. The museum houses outstanding collections relating to Natural Sciences, Archaeology, World Cultures and Egyptology belonging to the Natural History Society of Northumbria and the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne and showcases cutting edge university research alongside a popular and successful public programme
