Museum Project Officer – Suffolk County Council
Salary: £27,041
Hours: 29.6 hours per week (4 days per week)
Term: Fixed term / secondment until 31 March 2023.

A great opportunity to join the Suffolk County Council’s Public Health, Communities Team as a Museum Project Officer, working from Ipswich.

- Can you provide professional support, advice and encourage museums to meet Museum Accreditation standards?
- Can you work effectively with museum staff, volunteers, and a range of partners?
Your role
This is an exciting opportunity to work with museums and partners across Suffolk.
Your responsibilities
You will be expected to:
- Support museums to meet national standards and align their programmes with local, regional, and national strategies.
- Develop and deliver projects that meet the needs of local communities and contribute effectively to the local economy.
- Prepare agreed funding applications for projects from a range of sources, including Arts Council England and National Lottery Heritage Fund.
You will need to:
- be a confident communicator with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
- be able to manage own workload, reporting to the manager on policy or resource issues
- be able to act as an advocate for museums
- be able to influence with tact and diplomacy and forge positive relationships with external agencies
- have advisory skills regarding all issues in relation to current projects to colleagues and museums
- have an empathetic and approachable manner and be positive about the role of volunteers working in museums.
The team
Funded by the SHARE Museums East as part of the Suffolk Museums Partnership, the role is governed by the Association for Suffolk Museums and managed by Suffolk County Council in partnership with and all local authorities in Suffolk. You will be based in Ipswich and work within the Public Health, Communities team in Suffolk County Council alongside the museum, arts, and libraries colleagues.

The post is funded to 31 March 2023. There is the possibility of extension, depending on external funding.
Salary is £27,041 pro-rata for part-time.
