Museum Technician – Bletchley Park

Bletchley Park is a vibrant heritage attraction, open daily to visitors, revealing the secrets and telling fascinating stories of the secret British World War Two codebreaking operations. The mission of the Bletchley Park Trust is to attract, engage and educate people from all over the world in order to inspire them with Bletchley Park’s crucial role in World War Two.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Museum Technician to join our team. We have just moved into our dedicated Collections Centre, so it’s a great time to join us and work as part of our team to improve how we operate in core areas; and how we care for, manage and maintain our exhibitions and gallery spaces.
Reporting to the Exhibitions & Interpretation Manager you will be supporting them with the quality and presentation of the Bletchley Park story to enhance and assure the experience and safety of our visitors. You will assist with the preparation, maintenance and delivery of exhibitions, gallery enhancements and temporary displays, taking responsibility for some projects and supporting with those that are larger in scale.
As our Museum Technician, you will be responsible for providing technical and practical support to other teams as required, this could include making customised boxes/mounts, assisting with signage projects and installation or creating small set-dressed displays.
The successful candidate will have excellent planning, organisation and problem-solving skills, have demonstratable experience in woodwork or carpentry and be competent in the use of both hand and power tools. In addition, you be an effective communicator, with the confidence and creativity to maintain, design and build exhibitions and displays.
Due to the nature of this role and our unique environment, this role will include working at height on occasion, along with lifting and carrying items.
This position is part time, working 22.5 hours each week, usually between Monday to Friday. Flexibility to work before 9.30am and after 5.00pm, along with occasional weekend working is required.
You will be based on site at Bletchley Park, Milton Keynes.
In return, you will receive a salary of £14,400 (FTE £24,000) per annum depending on experience. Our benefits include 33 days annual leave per year (including statutory holidays) pro rata for part time, complementary entry pass allowance per year, a days’ birthday leave (after 12 months service), company pension scheme, death-in-service, and healthcare cash-plan.
